Data gathered by Oponeo, the online tyre retailer, has shown that Belfast is the cheapest UK city for car servicing.
Oponeo looked at the cost of a full service for a Ford Fiesta in 12 of the largest UK cities. Belfast came out on top, with the cheapest estimates from independent garages at just £165.50 and franchised dealers coming in at £239.
Scottish cities performed well with Edinburgh and Glasgow coming in joint second with Leicester, each with costs of £174 and £254.50 at independent and franchised dealers respectively. Unsurprisingly, London appeared bottom of the table with independent garages charging an average of £220.50 for a service and dealers coming in at a massive £337.50.
Belfast garages will be grateful for their spot at the top of this table if service costs follow through to vehicle repairs, as the data also showed it is the most accident-prone city per capita with 4.6 accidents per 1,000 people. Luckily it also has the lowest proportion of serious and fatal accidents, with 95.1% of all incidents being rated as ‘slight’. London follows closely behind in second place but it is Manchester that races to the top spot with the safest roads with the lowest number of accidents at 1 per 1000 people.
The Oponeo study also looked at fuel prices, average speeds, road safety and car insurance and concluded that the overall winner for most car-friendly city was ……Glasgow!
